The focus of my art practise is caring for the environment through recycling, up-cycling and creating with a sustainability priority.
My bowls are sculpted and stitched using collected, washed up ocean ropes. My collection of marine debris started decades ago during daily coastline walks. Apart from collecting man-made discarded items, the threat of entanglement to sea life was my main concern.
The beach ropes presented an opportunity to create something practical and attractive which could highlight this disturbing practice and ultimate threat while educating the community about the thoughtless disposal of man-made items along our coastline and from fishing vessels.
